Active & Passive Abilities
OVERVIEW

In the combat system there are eight techniques. Each techniques has a unique set of abilities, as well as a set of proficiencies. Each character receives two techniques with their chosen profession. The first is their primary technique followed by their secondary. Each character gains access to the novice tier of their primary & secondary techniques to begin. They must pursue learning the required proficiencies to gain access to the Adept tier of their primary & secondary techniques.

The character exchanges available KP to gain usage of a chosen ability & to gain the required proficiencies, each ability gains in strength and effectiveness based on the amount of KP invested in the ability.

The primary technique is more prominent in the professions combat style. The character is urged to learn more from this technique. They are allowed learn freely from three of the Active & three Passive focuses of their choosing.

The secondary technique is less prominent in the professions combat style. The character is urged to learn less from this technique. They are allowed to learn freely from two of the Active & two Passive focuses of their choosing.

The remaining focuses are not forgotten, the character can choose to learn the required proficiencies necessary to gain access. The ability to learn outside knowledge doesn't end with the focuses. The character can choose to pursue knowledge in the other techniques by learning the required proficiencies necessary. The character can also learn from the adept tier of these techniques by learning the required proficiencies.

The mastery tier of each profession is only gained by learning a unique proficiency from another master. This proficiency is garnered through the use of the Learn/Teach abilities of the character. Other requirements to the Mastery tier is that they must have learned abilities from their primary & secondary techniques, on both novice & adept tiers.

Each technique is very specific to the ability it can grant to the user. The eight techniques are Melee arts, Divine arts, Ranged arts, Shadow arts, Channeling arts, Arcane arts, Atunement arts & Psionic arts.

Techniques are the foundation of a characters combat structure. Each profession is a culture predicated on the primary & secondary techniques given. However techniques are a broad category of abilities. These abilities are split into two branches, an active branch & a passive branch.

The active branch is the grouping of all the focuses that are aggressive in nature, this doesn't mean damage must be dealt but that an action must be performed upon another person. Not all of the actions are violent however they all require the character to touch or impact the target openly.

The passive branch is the grouping of all focuses that are passive in nature, this doesn't mean they cannot damage their opponent but that an action is not required to be performed on another character. Some of these abilities are violent by nature, however they are reactionary by nature or impact the opponent subtly

Each branch contains several focuses, these focuses are a grouping of abilities that are similar in nature. These abilities reflect different aspects of the technique.
